Kings Beads Attends Comminution 2025 Conference

April 6, 2025

As a long-term sponsor, King’s Beads participated in the Comminution 2025 Conference held in Cape Town, South Africa, from March 31 to April 3, 2025. Organized by Mineral Engineering International (MEI), the Comminution Conference is a leading event in the global mining industry, showcasing cutting-edge research and innovations in crushing, grinding, and ultra-fine grinding. This year, the conference attracted over 230 participants from 29 countries.

Our Technical Service Manager, Johan Steyn, presented a paper titled "Does the Specific Gravity of Media Affect Process Efficiency?" The presentation sparked a lively discussion on how efficiently energy is transferred from ceramic beads to the IsaMill, and whether there is a point at which media density no longer contributes significantly to efficient grinding once a certain threshold of kinetic energy is reached for specific milling duties. This topic captured considerable attention, as energy consumption in fine and ultra-fine grinding remains a key focus due to the inherently high energy requirements of these processes.

The final technical session, held on the afternoon of April 3, was co-hosted by Kings Beads’ Technical Director, Alex Wang, and Professor Aubery Mainza from the University of Cape Town. This session focused on modeling, simulation, and practical improvements for ultra-fine grinding applications, guiding attendees toward a more innovative and energy-efficient future for the mining industry.

Throughout the conference, Kings Beads engaged in insightful discussions with industry professionals on ceramic media and ultra-fine grinding. We also explored how collaborative efforts can contribute to greener mining practices, particularly in reducing carbon footprints. Kings Beads remains committed to working alongside academic and industrial experts to promote sustainable and environmentally friendly mining practices.

We look forward to seeing you at Comminution 2027.
